Obama Summit – Assigning the Blame

President Obama hosted a ‘Jobs Summit’ on Thursday this week ostensibly to identify new ways to create jobs for more Americans.  It hasn’t dawned on the brain trust running the Federal Government that if there was a way to do this, in two hundred years of history, there had to be someone that has accomplished this in the past.

And actually, they have!  Unfortunately for Team Obama, the solution was clearly identified by none other than conservative and arch enemy of the lefty libs, Ronald Regan.  Coming into office on the heels of the last feeble-minded Democrat to occupy the Oval Office, Ronald Regan introduced tax cuts, limited government and reduced regulation.  (I know..Clinton qualifies as just as ‘feeble minded’ but Newt Gingrich kept Clinton’s budget balanced for most of his Presidency.)  The result of Regan’s economic policies was an unprecedented boom in employment and upward mobility.   But for a progressive, man-of-the-people President, learning from a conservative president though is akin to acknowledging that conservatives defeated the Soviet Union.

Now that another Democrat has emerged selling Jimmy Carter’s economic peanut oil, a new conservative resurgence is on the distant horizon.  In the meantime, those interested in earning a better life for themselves and their families are compelled whittle away their days working at Starbucks or UPS, waiting for American voters to get a brain and throw out the current crop of Democrats.

But seriously, what about those that need jobs or want to improve their economic situation now?  President Obama at least understands that citizens aren’t willing to remain without opportunity to earn an income stream that offers a chance to trade in the ’79 Pinto for a Lexus.  Unfortunately for team Obama and the lefties running Washington, the Stimulus Bill has stolen capital required for economic growth and channeled that money into non-wealth building spending by individual states.  History shows that two economic disasters will result from excessive government borrowing – inflation and high interest rates which kills jobs growth. Additionally, increasing taxes on the wealthy only leads to additional job losses (another historical fact).  So what is a Progressive President to do?

Obama will no doubt fall back on what He does best – blame others.  Only this time, he has recruited a team of experts to come up with things to blame.  Union leaders of course will blame ‘corporate greed.’  ACORN will blame racism, discrimination and maltreatment of the poor.  Senate and House Democrats will continue to dredge up class warfare issues to increase animosity amongst the population.  Although these aren’t solutions to the jobs problem, they are useful because these are the only things the President has to work with.

The real reason for this “Jobs Summit” then was to come up with a litany of ills that can be blamed on others.  Since Obama is approaching his one year anniversary in office, the tried and until now true tactic of blaming George W. Bush is looking more and more childish – even to the childish Chris Mathews, whose leg has returned to delivering normal sensation to its owner.

Barack Obama has now come face to face with the reality that all Democrats ultimately confront – liberal policies fail in America.  They actually fail everywhere else as well, but some societies such as in the UK and France, have chosen to live with them for while anyway.  The only thing Obama can do to hang on to His power is to come up with credible excuses.  But sooner or later, someone from MSNBC will ask the President when He will take responsibility for His actions on the economy.

With the country’s mood now soured on additional government spending, Team Obama is backed into a corner… they can’t really implement another Stimulus and they certainly won’t cut spending or tax rates.   This leaves the only available action to utilize friends in the media to blame others and to ultimately change the subject.

This is a process already underway.  Jobs figures released Friday morning show the unemployment rate supposedly dropping by two tenths of one percent.   Wowee!  Unfortunately, if unemployment were measured in the same way as they were under the Peanut Farmer’s reign the figure would be closer to 15 to 17%.  At the end of the week, Obama and company were left to celebrate the fact that only 11,000 jobs were lost during the past month.   Had this happened under GW Bush, Chris Mathews would have thrown up on his desk.

While losing only 11,000 jobs is certainly a step in the right direction, no consideration is given to the real reasons unemployment figures are dropping.  The simple reason is that people have exhausted their unemployment benefits.  When someone drops off his state’s unemployment role, it is assumed that he is no longer unemployed.  He therefore is not added to the number of unemployed.  As the first major waves of layoffs occurred about one year ago, these workers are now exhausting their benefits, leaving the incorrect impression that unemployment is declining when in fact unemployment is still increasing.

Team Obama fully understands this and is using its efforts to take over and ruin American health care to take the weak-minded media off the unemployment issue.  This will only work so long though.  As James Goober Carter discovered, when voters understand the damage liberalism does to the country and the economy, conservatism makes a huge come back.  Stay tuned!

Conservative Blog operators frequently receive interesting questions.  This one deserved at least a bit of discussion.

Why is the US Military generally a Conservative organization?

There are a few reaons for this…

• Family Tradition
• Opportunity for education and growth
• Chance to do meaningful work

Family traditions play a large role in choosing to enlist in the military.   A young enlistee frequently has a father or mother that also served.  Those that have served understand that the military is a difficult but very honorable choice and install this belief in their children’s set of values.  Additionally, the esteem with which young military people are received – particularly in rural and southern America is also an incentive.  The chance to ‘be somebody important’ is always an attraction.

More concretely, though, the Military also provides opportunities for college and career training.  Vocational experience can be provided to young people that might not have the opportunity in their home town areas.  A military commitment is highly rewarding professionally.

No one can argue that the military does not do valuable work.  Hunting and keeping those that would kill Americans if given any chance, is highly honorable work.  It is also difficult, but as the US Armed Forces provides the best training in the world, there is an unbeatable chance to be uccessful

These point by themselves don’t explain why the military tends to be conservative. The key point is that enlisting young people that value the tradition, opportunity and opportunity to do meaningful work are by definition “Conervative.”  So in this sense, those that enlist are “Conservatives” going in.  The military simply does not attract many liberals. 

Conservatives tend to not ’shy away’ from difficult deciions and hard work.  Following orders as a team is very difficult under battle conditions.  Following orders is difficult by itself.  However, the military method of personnel management holds that from the lowest enlisted level up through the officer’s ranks, all peronnel need to be trained and capable of doing the job one or two levels (or more) above their current station.  Officers understand that the people in their command are there to be trained and groomed for greater responsibility – not to be used as fodder.

Do liberals make good soldiers?  Some certainly do.  But a key advantage to an all-volunteer Armed Forces is that commanding officers don’t have to argue senseless emotionalisms with too many of their soldiers. The military environment just doesn’t work well for leftists, who tend to blame others for problems and seem to seek out ways to make other people do the difficult work.   Young people with liberal beliefs understand that the military doesn’t tolerate a lot of argument when difficult decisions are made and have to be executed.  Accordingly, the Young Democrats don’t send many recruits to Fort Bragg. 

Ambition to better one’s self is a key part of the conservative lifestyle.  As the military offers tremendous opportunities to achieve and grow – particularly for Americans without the financial means to attend Harvard.  Young conservatives fully understand this opportunity.  If they are willing to personally work hard and be in an environment where they are accountable for their actions and decisions, the military is a great opportunity.  Interestingly, this also explains why Harvard types are so liberal – many of them are simply pursuing their entitlement of an Ivy League education and haven’t had to work all that hard to get there. 

In short, it doesn’t take much effort to be a liberal whereas it takes a thinking and rational, unemotional and ambitious individual to be conservative.  As the military attracts rational and ambitious young people, it only holds that its ranks should be filled mostly by conservatives.  And thank God for that.

Weekend Ostrich Award – Health Care

For choosing to bury one’s head in the sand, Washington’s Jim McDermott wins this weekend’s Ostrich Award for finding some reason to opine that Obamacare is “gaining support.”

From the Sunday NYT   “the mentality in the country is different,” (as opposed to when Hillary launched her effort to take over American health care) said Mr. McDermott, a psychiatrist who has served in Congress for two decades. “In 1993, we were talking about the uninsured as ‘them.’ Now it turns out this is for us. When a bank like Washington Mutual in Seattle lays off 3,000 people, they lose health insurance. Millions of people with insurance are asking, ‘What if I lose my job?’ ”

Actually, because of the Congressman’s past support of the Stimulus, many workers are asking “how can I get a job?”   Most people that currently have health care are primarily worried about what their new health care would cost.   The ads run by Obamacare advocates claim that medical decisions will be made by “you and your doctor.”  What they don’t say is what treatments you will be allowed to receive and when you would be allowed to receive it.   You and your doctor may decide on having a hip replacement surgery, but the Obamacare boards may very well deny your application based on their cost/benefit analysis.  You and your doctor decided to get a hip replaced, but the government wouldn’t cover the cost.

Many of us remember the psych majors who couldn’t get a real job.  McDermott still hasn’t found one.

Reverse Ostrich Award – Jobs

This one is a ‘Reverse Ostrich Award’ owing to the story’s rather surprising source.   Carolyn Lochhead, Chronicle Washington Bureau from the SF Chronicle of all places is getting one right…. “Forget a jobless recovery,” she writes, “the economy may be entering a recovery with job losses.” 

Of course this sent the leftists who by definition flunked free enterprise economics scurrying.  

Top White House economist Christina Romer of UC Berkeley (where leftist Econ majors are held in the same esteem as God) told Congress on Thursday that employment growth could remain “painfully weak” through next year, and that the largest effect from the $787 billion stimulus enacted in February, mainly aid to states, is past. By mid-2010, she said, the stimulus will no longer contribute to growth.

Romer will be interested to learn that the stimulus is strangling growth right now because of the inevitable inflationary expectation that occurs when the federal government commits to borrow an incredible sum of money and has to resort to printing at least some of what it needs.  Additionally, business is holding back on long term investment because federal government competition in the world financial markets to fund the Stimulus spending is only driving interest rates up.  Engineers, architects and other professionals that rely on the availability of reasonably priced, long term capital availability are cutting staffs as current contracts expire.  They won’t be hiring back any time soon.

Lochhead points out one other issue that those in San Francisco endeavor to ignore.

“Economists are puzzled as to why job growth has slowed, citing everything from higher health care costs, to higher productivity, to Chinese currency manipulation.  The answer is, we don’t know,” said Tim Bartik, a liberal economist with the Upjohn Institute for Employment Research in Michigan who is proposing a tax credit for employers who hire new workers.  (Where have we heard this before?) At a cost of $21,000 per job created, he said, a tax credit is far cheaper than the average $112,000 cost of each job created by the stimulus, as calculated by the administration.” Most currently unemployed taxpayers could do very well investing this $112K in a new business of their own. 

This is interesting not only in the description of Bartik as a ‘liberal economist’ but in that he supposedly understands the concept of tax credits.  This blasphemy will not go unpunished in Nancy Pelosi’s district.

Obama Hangover

Democrats are facing the possibility of a couple fairly major election losses in the next two weeks.  Governors races in Virginia and normally reliably blue New Jersey have the White House political machine on edge. 

Democrats have reason to be seriously worried.  Losing both elections could be that elusive anchor to reality that the Obama administration struggles to avoid.  When voters pay attention to issues like health care and energy costs instead of political platitudes such as ‘hope and change,’ Democrats are sure losers.

“Democrats are finding that the electricity of 2008 is tough to recapture”  reports the LA Times.  Terming the phenomenon “Obama Hangover,” the Times goes on to manufacture another excuse for a possible Democrat loss – the voters are just overwhelmed and tired. 

Well… not everyone is overwhelmed and tired.  Conservatives are about as energized as at any time since 1984.  An Obama Hangover may spur reasonable and rational behavior in the voting booth for several years to come.

Where the Real Wild Things Are

As we close yet another bizarre week in the news, the Obama administration combined with world despots, to create yet another series of truly wild events.  So to coincide with release this weekend of Where the Wild Things are, we present this week’s list of Wild Things.

Venezuela
In a picture of what could be on the horizon for Americans, Venezuela’s “Porky Pig” Chavez, who hasn’t missed a good feeding because of the inherently unfair capitalist, imperialist system, announced a new government policy limiting showers to a total of three minutes to conserve water.  Chavez recently put the Venezuelan media under his control because he could no longer force feed them a daily ration of trash.  So now the population is both dirty and uninformed – sort of like the US hippie culture of the late 1960s.  This explains the voting habits of these 1960’s lifestyle leftovers – most of whom are now teachers in the public schools.

Fox News
Obama’s recent attempt to freeze out Fox News is a long way off from Chavez’ outright nationalization of the news media, but the Prez is still in line with South America’s favorite tubby despot.  It has been said that Democrats lack a sense of humor.  This must be true, since the Obama administration has made itself the laughingstock of even the most liberal member of the DC press corps.   Fox meanwhile has enjoyed the treatment, adding significant numbers of viewers due to the free exposure provided by leading leftists.  If the lefties are so outraged against Fox, most thinking viewers understand that Fox must actually be telling the truth.

Hollywood Musicians
Some of the world’s foremost purveyors of modern music objected loudly this week when it was revealed that some of their music may have been used to break down the wills of trained killers currently held at Guantanamo.  The theory goes that their music was played repeatedly to aggravate and finally coerce the terrorists to spill their guts – to prevent Americans from literally spilling their guts in the streets of unnamed US cities.  

The outrage is absolutely laughable – especially to anyone that had an 11 year old daughter when Hanson came out with its Mmm Bop song.  The song was on auto repeat for hours on end in millions of American homes and the youth came out none the worse for wear.  It was the parents that needed mental help. 

Roseanne Cash in speaking for some claimed that ‘music should never be used for torture.’  That may be true enough, but anyone who has endured an interview with any member of R.E.M. has suffered far worse.   In truth, the US military and CIA officers that came up with this scheme may have finally discovered a true benefit to whatever it is that Rage Against the Machine produced in the way of sound.   At least Rage finally contributed something to the country.  In the end, if the interrogators really wanted to turn these killers into kittens, they would have played the Banana Boat Song by Harry Belafonte until the terrorists brains melted into mush.   This also explains how Belafonte created so many Democrat followers.

Rahm Emanuel
Rarely does the White House allow Rahm to participate in extensive press sessions where he could be photographed.  After this week’s video of Emanuel’s meetings with Congressional lefties emerged, the reasons for this strategy became self evident.    Rahm’s eyes are consistently at half-mast.  However the part of his pupils that peek out give one the impression that he needs to go in for his yearly rabies shot.  Perhaps this is all a Halloween get-up, but the administration would be well advised to banish this lunatic into the same locked up room where they now keep Joe Biden.

Balloon Boy
The Colorado family that created a crisis for the purpose of generating publicity is probably headed for a court date.  Interestingly though, this is exactly the same tactic that the aforementioned Rahm Emanuel employs to drum up false demand for government takeover of health care (as well as energy, transportation, finance…..).   Emanuel should immediately come to the Balloon Boy family’s defense as it was he who made this method of pursuing one’s objectives acceptable.

Sense of Direction
A Northwest Airlines flight from San Diego, California overshot the Minneapolis, Minnesota, airport by about 150 miles Wednesday evening, causing passengers to miss their connections.  Interestingly, their luggage arrived right on time.  The flight of course eventually reached its destination, but not without unwanted publicity. 

Overshooting objectives seems to be a common result of Democrat action as well.  After pledging to bring in a health care bill that didn’t add to the deficit, the Congressional Budget office reported that the current Democrat takeover plan won’t add to the deficit but will instead result in billions of new taxes that will be paid by consumers that already have health care insurance.  So while Congressional lefties were celebrating the potential reduction in the deficit, their constituents were trying to reach them by phone to ask how they are to pay for it.  At least voters know which direction Democrat office holders will be heading next November.

These events occurred within only a few short days this week.  Just don’t ask what Team Obama and the DC lefties have planned for next week.

Obama’s Balloon Boys

Late last week, a lunatic Colorado family launched a home-made helium balloon from their back yard and ignited a hoax watched by the entire world.  Claiming they believed their son was carried aloft by the craft, the entire state and nation were mesmerized by the drifting balloon believing the child was on board.  In the end, the story generated a great deal of emotion, skepticism and finally, accusations of fraud. 

Claiming this was all done for a ‘show’ the young man who had hidden himself inside the family garage as much as admitted the hoax on CNN afterwards.   At least this is more than Team Obama members admit to when caught in a hoax of their own.  This family may get their show as a result, but it will be one from which they will never earn a dime.  All proceeds will almost assuredly be paid in restitution for the services of those involved in the rescue attempt and for the diversion costs of flights in and around Denver International Airport where the thing finally came back to earth.   All in all, this family will have only perpetrated a fraud and embarrassment upon themselves and cost taxpayers a great deal of money.

This of course brings us to discussion of Obama policies.  Fraud perpetration and choices that are sure to bring future embarrassment are also being made at the White House, where the President’s staff seems focused on its own ‘show.’  

Fox News – Picking a fight with Fox News is pointless and guaranteed to leave the White House with its nose bloodied.   Team Obama has sent up this trial balloon of hyped up indignation claiming that Fox News is untruthful in its reporting.  The ultimate objective in this fight is to establish Obama as the ‘victim’ of unfair treatment.  And one of the surest ways to tell when Democrats are desperate is when they claim victimhood.   The Presidency is the loudest bully pulpit in the world.  Still, Obama wants to be the underdog.  And accusing Fox of being unfair Obama Himself drove millions of new viewers to the very network He wants to demonize.

Young Voters – Former Clinton advisor Dick Morris reported yesterday that recent polling among young voters suggested that the younger age group supports the Obama health care takeover plan.  That is they supported it right up until they had it explained to them.  When individual features of the plan are laid out, younger voters understand that they will get bills for increased cost for their own health care, increased fees and taxes for health care of others, and a great reduction in the quality of care that they receive.  When the college aged crowd gets details, they no longer support the plan.  The more Obama sends up His health care trial balloons, the more laughable He appears.

Incidentally, GOP strategists have apparently emerged from the morgue to come up with a way or two to reach out to these same younger voters.  To illustrate just what the Obama brand of socialism means, some of the GOP troops came up with a fake Facebook redistribution plan.  As younger voters make such heavy use of Facebook, the GOP wizards came up with a program to execute a  ‘Facebook Tax’ to take friends from one user’s Facebook account to redistribute to those that have fewer friends.  This also could be extended into each college campus where students would redistribute their grades so that all students will score evenly on class work.   When socialism is made personal, younger voters tend to run away like all other intelligent voters. 

Iran – This would be a lot funnier if it didn’t mean the potential deaths of millions of innocents.  The Prez floated the idea that Iran would be sanctioned by the world community as a result of His awesome diplomacy.  After surrendering the safety of Eastern Europe by dropping deployment plans for a missile defense shield in exchange for – well nothing really – Obama expected the Russians to join Him in sanctioning Iran for its nuclear program.  Of course anything that is good for the United States will be opposed by the Russians.  Still, Obama naively believed that by cowering before Putin the Russians would suddenly become reasonable.  The Obama doctrine of ‘see how great the US is since I’ve been President’ has failed miserably.

United Nations – President Obama gave a marvelous speech for a socialist, showing the world once and for all that the US has been a great nation for the past nine months.  He then called on the international body to live up to its charter by taking appropriate action to secure world peace.    His speech was then followed by speeches by the world’s leading terrorists – Libya’s Muammar Khadafy and the nut job from Iran.   Only a fool puts any kind of hope in a body that embraces terrorists.  The only world leader with both a brain and a backbone was Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who called the world body to shame for entertaining those such as Khadafy. 
 
Unemployment – Although the administration’s cooked books show that new applications for unemployment may be decreasing by a very small percentage, the numbers of new unemployment applications are still growing by half a million each week!  Team Obama has pointed then to Wall Street where stock prices are rising as proof of their economic policy success.   Large numbers of unemployed are not going to spur consumer confidence or increase consumer spending.  Until unemployment improves, the recession will continue to deepen.

Joe Biden – Biden himself declared the recession over in a speech earlier this week.   As proof, he said that we are now in a ‘depression.’  Team Obama dispatched a team of specialists to capture the VPWI (Vice President Without Intelligence) and confine him to that previously unknown secure location.
This latest gaffe comes right on the heels of Team Obama’s attempts to increase the VP’s stature in advance of handing Biden the responsibility for losing in Afghanistan.  Fortunately, CNN chose to ignore the story and the gaffe.

Team Obama inflates each of its policy trial balloons with hydrogen instead of heium.  From economics to foreign policy, every Obama trial balloon has gone down (or up) in flames.

Gordon Brown – the UK’s Chicken Little

In what could be an sneak preview of the wild theatrics that precede the downfall of a leftist administration, the UK’s Gordon Brown issued a call to action on global warming on Monday that among other things, warned “of a catastrophe for the planet” if action to tackle climate change is not agreed at forthcoming UN talks.   He also said that “global warming could be more costly than two world wars and the Great Depression.”   This called the British press to question Brown’s scientific and economic credentials – of which Brown possesses neither.”

 Aside from Spanish PM Zapatero, Brown is the last European lefty in a position of any significance among the great European democracies.  Left to grasp at straws before his impending smack down at the hands of UK Conservatives, Brown has fallen back on the age-old tactic of creating a crisis. Only this one is just silly.

Economic matters have pushed the global warming debate onto the back burner.  Scientific evidence has kept it there as global temperatures have in fact been cooling since 1998.  Brown’s theatrics were performed in attempt to call Europe’s leaders to a climate conference in Copenhagen.  These meetings were originally intended as a follow up to the ones that produced the Kyoto Protocol.  Unfortunately, most of Europe’s leaders are concerned with jobs, the world wide recession and in fending off a new threat from Russia after being sold out by the Obama administration.  Merkel (DEU) and Sarkozy (FRA) have full plates and appear unlikely to join the British PM in changing the subject from real problems.

In an attempt to make the problems more ‘real,’ Brown pointed out the European heat wave that supposedly killed some 35,000 Europeans in 2003. Obama’s health care proposals will kill a lot more than this.  Of course, it wasn’t directly the European heat that caused this disaster – it was the lack of air conditioning.  If Londoners moved to Phoenix and lived in small homes without AC, they’d struggle too.  Climate anomalies simply occur from time to time.  But like Hurricane Katrina, it is just much easier for the liberal mind to blame George W. Bush or global warming than to look at events within an historical context. 

What is also interesting is the lack of backbone to confront the world’s worst polluter.  China brings on line one new dirty coal fired plant every two weeks to meet its industrial energy requirements.  The results were evident during the Olympic Games last summer when pollution that would never be tolerated in the western world clouded all outdoor venues.  Liberal media dutifully chose to overlook Chinese abuse of the environment and has continued to do so.

Without the cooperation of China, any effort at controlling carbon output is just silly and a complete waste of time and money.  And even if accomplished, reducing carbon output will have very little if any impact on world temperatures.  Reducing pollution by itself is a laudable objective.  But to say that the sea is going to swallow up millions of Polynesian islanders is without foundation.  Besides, China in particular is quite content to let western nations damage their economies with burdensome environmental regulations while theirs becomes comparatively strong using dirty energy production. 

Still, Brown insists that inattention to Global Warming will cost lives.  Barack Obama’s health care plan will cost a lot more lives, but Brown isn’t calling attention to that little matter.   Look for Brown to continue banging his head on the brick wall of economic reality up until his defeat in the next British election.   He has no accomplishments to his credit and has now built himself into Western Europe’s laughing stock.   What does he do next?  Word has it that Brown has requested several thousand ACORN workers to relocate to the UK in preparation for the next election.

Obama the Naive

President Obama trumpeted His philosophy of ‘be nice’ to others in the world under the theory that other nations would then return favorable treatment to the United States.  It has only taken a few short months for Him to be proven terribly wrong. It was reported late Sunday that the Obama administration is-internally at least – admitting to being seriously outmanuvered by Russian strongman Vladimir Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev.  

President Obama was quite anxious to prove that the foreign policy of George W. Bush was so flawed in its arrogance and ‘bullying’ towards others, that it fell right into a major Russian trap.  The Russians of course bullied the US into removing all promises for a shield to defend the free peoples of Eastern Europe as well as the United States from incoming missiles – regardless of where they might originate. Obama gave in without any agreement, apparently believing that Russia would be so impressed with the US President’s gesture that it would back UN sanctions against Iran.  Now that serious talk of sanctions has been brought up, the Russians want no part, leaving Team Obama dismayed. 

Of course any conservative could have informed the naive President that removing missile defense from Eastern Europe would not gain a single Russian concession.  In fact, many conservatives did bring this up only to be dismissed by an arrogant Obama State Department.

Putin of course wants the necessary tools on hand to intimidate Europe into accepting  whatever policy Russia might impose.  And as Russia works to corner the supply market for European natural gas, any method to make a threat real, only helps their cause.   The Europeans will soon find themselves paying inflated prices for Russian natural gas because there will be no other alternative.   The ultimate Russian ambition may well be the eventual domination of Europe by control over natural gas supplies, sealed with a threat of conflict from which Europeans typically cower.

That Russia has never fully relinquished the occupiers role after the fall of the USSR is not a surprise.  What is a surprise is that the US was so willing to help them rebuild their role as dominators of Eastern Europe.  Democrats in general have been termed “useful idiots” by every Russian leader since Stalin but even this must have come as a shock that Obama would have been so anxious to sell out his allies. 

Unfortunately, this only escallates the conflict with Iran.  Any thinking (read non-leftist) administrator understands that Iran is the worlds second top producer of natural gas – second only to Russia.  Russia’s interest is to keep the conflict brewing with Iran to make supply contracts with the Islamic state high-risk.  This runs up the price of Iranian natural gas contracts and allows the Russians to inflate the price of theirs.  So by keeping the conflict boiling, Russia makes money. 

Additionally, since sanctions are looking less likely, Obama’s naive policy has pushed the United States closer to armed conflict with Iran simply because the Chosen One has no other options.   With Europeans becoming aware that their only supply of natural gas might put them at the risk of Russian economic domination, our allies are growing increasingly uncomfortable with Obama’s willingness to talk instead of act.   Obama should now pressure the Europeans into a united action – regardless of what happens in the dictatorship-dominated, UN.  Unless Obama has another surprise up his sleeve, this will never happen.

Interestingly, the only possible way out of a major armed conflict might be for the Europeans to step up and insist that NATO undertake direct action now to free Iran from the mullah’s oligarchy. Acting now would mean military action on a much smaller scale than if Iran lights off one of its nuclear warheads over Tel Aviv.  However, as NATO hasn’t actually fired a shot without the United States taking the lead, this could be a ‘tough-sell.’   United action requires US leadership.  President Obama has absolutely no ambition to lead the west in any military action to defend its interests because that would amount to ‘bullying.’  Without US leadership and vision, getting Obama to move off his talk first then talk more foreign policy will be difficult.   After all, Obama still has to prove GW Bush was a terrible foreign policy President.   

All this of course brings us back around to the Israelis.  Israel understands that Russia intends to keep the conflict going – even if that means allowing Iran to attain ability to build a nuclear weapon.  Given the Iranian lunatic leadership’s intent to destroy the Jewish state, Israel is going to have to take action – if for no other reason than to provoke Obama and the US leftist administration into intervening.  And now that President Obama has surrendered the safety of Eastern Europe to the Russians, Israel knows she cannot count on the US to help once Iran gets a weapon of mass destruction.  Let us hope Israel acts soon and doesn’t wait until nuclear tipped Iranian missiles start flying around.

In the end, Obama’s selling out to the Russians by dropping plans for a missile defense shield has emboldened our adversaries, encouraged our enemies and greatly increased the risk of real and sustained armed conflict.   Internally at least, Team Obama now knows that this President’s naive leadership has made the world much more dangerous.

Mmm, Mmmm, Good!

There is nothing more humorous than the truth. 

Last week’s controversy surrounding the school district that produced a video of impressionable school children singing the praises of Barack Obama hasn’t exactly disappeared.  The incident re-raised the question why our public schools are failing so badly, but that is another matter. 

This little song opened the administration up to ridicule for the hero-worship it has done nothing to tamp down. In the end, the administration will regret not presenting itself with more humility.

Paranormal Activity – in the Obama Administration

Grossing over $8 million thus far, the film Paranormal Activity is supposedly one of the scariest films released this year.  Why people pay good money to be scared out of their wits is a unique socio-psychological phenomenon.  Interestingly, the election of Barack Hussein Obama has followed a similar path.  People are going to pay good money –in fact one whole lot of it – to have the living Hell scared out of them by their future personal health care.

Paranormal roughly translates as something unusual that defies logical or physical explanation.  This is a perfect description for the Obama administration’s daily operations.  Here is but a sampling

Press Conferences and Robert – Family Guy – Gibbs – Could the President have found a spokesperson that could be less trustworthy?  The Family Guy must have been brought in to take attention away from the President.  Gibb’s daily Dilbert imitation has made even the left leaning DC Press Corps uncomfortable.

Health Care – Does anyone at the White House understand economics? Does anyone really care?  (Apologies to the band Chicago from the 1970s.) Clintonista Robert Reich at least understands!  A video gone viral this week shows the prominent Obama Economic Advisor telling the truth about Obamacare – specifically the need to have senior citizens die sooner to save money.   So far the response from DC Dems has been to point to Rush Limbaugh as being inappropriate to play an ownership role in the NFL.

Afghanistan – How does one win a war if one isn’t willing to fight it?  Flailing around for months now for a solution to win a war without sending in troops, President Obama came up with a brilliant idea – increase the stature of Imbecile Vice President (IVP) Joe Biden so that Biden can take the fall for whatever ridiculous plan emerges.  Actually, this may turn out to be one of the politically smarter things Obama does to handle this.  Blaming Biden for a screw up would at least be logical – even if Obama created the problem.   Afghanistan only has one option – fight the bad guys where they are.  Period.  Obama’s silly searching for an alternate universe from which to launch a be-nice strategy is dangerous, embarrassing and doomed to failure.  He may as well set up Biden for the fall.

Gitmo – You mean we have to move these guys?  Team Obama was stunned last summer to learn that US voters didn’t want trained killers housed in their states.    What really was stunning was that no one on Team Obama thought to figure out a place for these lunatics before the Prez made his juvenile pledge to close the thing in one year.

Unemployment – Why aren’t people hiring?  Man, with all the Stimulus money, unemployment won’t exceed 8% – oop,  or 9%, or… 10%.  And… the peak of unemployment will hit by October, no wait – by December,   no wait, by June of 2010.  The Obama administration keeps hitting hard on its health care takeover plan because it doesn’t want voters to focus attention on how awful the employment picture has become as a direct result of the Stimulus.    Obama truly believed that just borrowing and spending our children’s inheritance would create a stable employment market.

Fighting Fox News – Other network ‘news’ organizations are primarily configured as entertainment venues.  Katie Couric is not a journalist but she is cute.  Accordingly, those interested in a cute recitation of Democrat talking points just tune in to CBS. Unfortunately for CBS, there aren’t many of these. 

For Team Obama to impugn the honor and honesty of Fox News only brings attention to the fact that Fox is the most viewed and most influential cable news provider.   Fox is the 500 pound gorilla in the news biz whether CNN wants to admit it or not.  For Team Obama to continually point out that Fox News isn’t being supportive of the Democrat and Presidential political objectives, only increases interest in what the network has to say.  Of course this drives viewership up and the viewer stats prove that this is a consistent trend. 

The bottom line:  in any conflict of viewpoints, making one’s adversary stronger is the mark of a fool.    And this is the same team setting economic and defense policy.
