Five Failed Campaign Promises – Building the Obama Legacy
All Presidents enter office with a vision for transforming the nation. President Obama was somewhat unique in that he actually promised to do just that. It is now clear that what he was intent on doing was transforming America into something radically different than what it is today.
Campaigns by their competitive nature inspire promises. The last Presidential race saw Barack Obama segment his message to fit individual audiences. To his radical leftist base, He promised expansive government to solve social problems. To middle ground and independent voters, He promised to be a new kind of Democrat that would reach across the aisle to get conservatives to support expansive government. It really didn’t dawn on any in the administration that these promises were in conflict with one another.
And now that the promise of bipartisanship has been proven false, the nation should examine other promises made by then candidate Obama.
Smartest Administration in History… We hold this joke to be self-evident… How in the world did Team Obama arrive at selecting Joe Biden for VP? The gaffe a minute Veep is held essentially under White House arrest in that formerly unknown secure location so that verbal Joe won’t shoot off his mouth – like he did in telling exactly where that formerly unknown secure location actually is. The man who once introduced the President as “Barack America” and who said that the most important three letter word now was “J-O-B-S, “ is a walking PR time bomb.
The Prez isn’t above revealing his own ignorance on simple matters either, once announcing that He had visited all 57 states. Any other administration would have this gaffe tattooed to their collective foreheads by the media, but the press has of course given Team Obama a pass. Right now, though, journalistic credibility is so low, if news organizations wish to survive, they may actually have to find someone capable of doing some investigating and honest reporting.
Including the President and Veep, there are others in the administration – such as Treasury’s Tim Geithner who couldn’t figure out how to run the “Tax Cut” software program and failed to report that he spent a great deal of money on Nannies and servants. There is Commie Van Jones whose foul mouthed description of Republicans got him a nice new job with George Soros. Tom Daschle – who once lived in South Dakota also, discovered that he had huge tax reporting problems. Daschle currently works for the President advising Him on the best way to ruin American health care.
Middle Class Tax Cut –Rest assured that the middle classes will pay for the outrageous spending plan that the Obama administration intends to use to pay off His special interests. The wealthy simply do not have enough money to fund Obama’s spending plans. Obama seems to believe that the middle classes won’t figure out that although the IRS won’t levy a higher tax percentage against their incomes, their incomes will be heavily taxed by inflation and by dollar devaluation. Excessive and reckless spending always drives the value of the dollar down, inflation up and drives up the cost of common goods and services.
Obama – with the help of His allies in the teachers unions – is counting on the public remaining ignorant of these economic realities. But judging from how many seniors actually read the health care legislation; Obama may not be able to hoodwink the middle classes too much longer. When inflation hits high gear next year to coincide with Stimulus spending, any jobs recovery will die off and consumers will get wise to Him.
New Kind of Democrat – In fairness, Obama didn’t completely lie about this one. He promised that He would be a New Kind of Democrat. And He wasn’t completely dishonest. His administration is the most blatantly leftist in vision and action in history. Unfortunately for the Prez, He promised to unaffiliated, independent voters in the middle of the political spectrum during the campaign that He would reach across the aisle to find common ground with Republicans. The only common ground he has sought involves finding a place on earth to bury conservative ideas once and for all.
Obama certainly turned out to be a New Kind of Democrat alright – the most extreme leftist one in history. The Blue Dogs are the first set of Dems to figure this out and they are in a mad bind right now trying to figure out what to do next. Support the President and lose their jobs? Or withhold support and find themselves in Rahm Emanuel’s cross-hairs. Sooner or later, the Blue Dogs will realize that they work for their constituents and not the Obama administration.
Create a Post-Racial Society – Also in fairness, the media had a hand in concocting this little gem. Middle ground voters were promised a post-racial society if Obama was elected. As most middle ground voters are sick to death of excessive and even absurd charges of racism, this seemed like a great promise. If they voted for this guy, they wouldn’t have to listen to trumped up charges and race baiting from the left. It was a nice dream.
Obama keeps the race card in his back pocket and lends it out to folks like that most Ex of American Presidents – Jimmy Carter (thanks to PJ O’Rourke for the phrase “most ex of American Presidents”). Intellectual lightweights like Carter and Maureen Dowd have attempted to make the case that objecting to an Obama policy initiative is race-based. Of course this is absurd and it is exactly the kind of thing independent voters thought they were getting rid of by electing Obama.
In the long run, this is healthy for America as media liberals and entrenched Democrat politicians keep trying to dredge up the race issue to advance their agenda. Conservatives look at the content of a given proposal or issue to make their judgments – not on the race of the one pushing the policy. And like the children’s story “The Boy who Cried ‘Wolf,’” endless charges of racism are less and less believable and appear more and more absurd. (This of course is bad for revealing real cases of racism, but that is another matter.)
Post bills on public website and allow at least five days of comment – This turned out to be a blatant lie. After trying to cram the takeover of American health care down the throats of its citizens by insisting on a bill before the August recess, the President actively sought to restrict public comment and input until the bill was safely passed. The President obviously had no intention of keeping this promise. Stimulus spending couldn’t be slowed down for public review either. However He has developed a neat little responsibility dodge by claiming that these are Congressional responsibilities and not His. It doesn’t matter to most lefties that putting up a website to display these documents is a matter of a couple hours of work – nothing more.
The Obama legacy is beginning then to take shape in the form of ridiculous campaign promises made and then forgotten. There are many more promises worthy of investigation, so check back often. Voters are already evaluating His performance though, and will render an initial verdict on Obamatron candidates in Virginia and New Jersey six weeks from now. Stay Tuned!
